Public
Transport in Paris
Travelling in Paris is no problem at all since there is a variety of transport
available, suiting the mood and the budget of the traveller.
Paris and its suburbs are divided into five travel zones linked by the Métro(underground
railway), bus and the RER. Zones
1 and 2 cover the city centre. The Métro is the most convenient way of travelling
around Paris. RATP, the Paris public transport system, controls the Métro and
buses. The public transport also includes the RER, the fast suburban overground
lines which interconnects with the underground railway system inside Paris. What
more, the same tickets and passes are valid on the Métro, bus and RER.
The public transport system in Paris is governed by the RATP. For visitors to
the city, the three main modes of transport you are likely to deal with are the
Metro (the subway/underground system), the RER
(commuter railway which also provides an express alternative to the Metro), and
the bus. In addition, the RATP runs buses from the two
airports Orly and Charles de Gaulle to various points in the city ofParis.
The underground Metro system is the most efficient way to travel around Paris.
If you can't speak or read French, it may take a few tries to get the hang of
the system, but once you get it you'll find that it is fast, simple and, most
importantly, inexpensive. Moreover, it is a great way to experience a commonality
of Paris living.
